When you need help, it's important to know where you are. With our active lifestyles, we may accidentally find ourselves not "lost," but not exactly sure where we are at the moment. So, how do you get your GPS location from your mobile phone in order to share it with 9-1-1 operators?
Phones are constantly being updated with new features and sometimes menus change as well, so these instructions, while accurate today, may not be in the future.
iPhone Instructions
- Open Maps on your iPhone
- Tap the Current Location icon
- Tap on the blue location circle when it appears
- Swipe up from the bottom to see full location details including Latitude and Longitude
- To easily share your location with 9-1-1 you need to copy the Latitude and Longitude. Long press on the Latitude, Longitude will allow you to copy your location. Then you can open a text to 9-1-1 and Paste your location along with details of your emergency. REMINDER: Call if you can, TEXT if you can't.
